The Montessori 3-Period Lesson is a teaching method used to introduce new concepts to children, particularly vocabulary and foundational skills in a clear and structured way. It consist of three stages:
The Directress introduces and names the material , for example "this is a Q" and the child is encouraged to feel it and trace it with his fingers.
The Directress asks the child to identify the concept introduced, for example " Can you show me Q?"
The Directress asks the child to recall the concept, so would ask "What is this?"
This method reinforces learning by engaging the child in a multi-sensory process and moreover it tells the teacher for certain that the child has recalled the concept.
